Changes...
Most people live a day at a time, thinking that the sun will still shine the next day.. But what if one day u wake up and find that the sun may just disappear any time... Will u then start to buy whatever food u can find in the market??
The very same way, we tend to spend whatever money we have, thinking that the next month's income will come, as sure as the sun will rise. We save what is left, if there's any. What if one day the boss says that the company is going bankrupt anytime. Will it be the time that we start saving up?
We always think that tomorrow will be the same as today. What if the next day someone in the family gets hospitalised and or there's some emergency and you need money? Human beings hate changes... And we hope, and pray that everyday will be the same day, although we know that it's never the same.
Risk Avoidance System
We have this risk avoidance system in ourselves. Anything that is deemed risky, we avoid. That's why many chose the option of being employed. The risk is being transferred to the company. Or should I say the blame is easily transferred to other people. For example when the company goes bankrupt, it's easy to point the finger to say that the boss screwed up the company, than to say "I screwed up my own company". No one wants to take the responsibility when bad things happen. But everyone wants to claim credit when something good happens. However, it is only when we take the responsibilities that we grow and learn.
Self Fulfilling
Everything is neutral. And we choose what to believe, and our mind will choose all the news and information to support what we believe in, and filter out those that contradict our beliefs. Like when u dun like a person, u will even critisize the perfume she's wearing. But if u like a person, you'll find his body odour to be nice.
A typical example is that many people believe that JC is hard. And there's countless "horror" stories of those who drop out from JC to go poly. But statistically wise, every year there's at least 70% or more who can make it to the uni.. Why do we take tat 30% and amplify them up?
Commitment vs Hope
Every time I msn with my cousin, he always reminded me of a typical human being. He wants to be rich, like many people. But he has more excuses not to be. The easiest way to increase the income is to have more jobs. So I suggest to him to take up tuition, which he can give after work. But he said that he had already lost touch with books. And I told him that it's very easy to read up cos the knowledge is already there. And then he said that he has no lobang. I told him that he can go to tuition agencies to look for students. And in the end, he did not do anything. He hopes, but he's not committed.
Financial Literacy
Our education system teaches us languages, sciences, maths, humanities, but it doesn't teach us financial education. There are countless graduates out there who earn $5000 but spend $6000. It doesn't need an accountant to manage our money. Just a simple income-expenses statement a month to track our monthly cash flow. Expenses, however small, may add up to be a huge amount unless u consciously monitor and keep track of it.
